The National University of Singapore (NUS) Debate Team is proud to convene the NUS Challenge Shield (NCS) on the 20th of February and the 27th of February 2010. The NUS Challenge Shield is traditionally one of the most challenging and prestigious tournaments in the local debate calendar, and this year

Secondary Schools will have 1 hour to prepare for their debates and Junior Colleges will have 45 minutes to prepare for theirs. Preparation for both secondary schools and junior colleges will begin at the same time, as the motions will be common to both divisions.
The constructive speeches for both divisions will run for 8 minutes, with the first and last minute of the speech protected from interjections. Reply speeches can be given by either the first or second speakers on the team, and will run for 4 minutes. No interjections are allowed for reply speeches.

This year we are privileged to have Mr. Nabil Mustafiz as our Chief Adjudicator and Mr Kelvin Chong as our Deputy Chief Adjudicator.
Mr. Nabill Mustafiz is an esteemed alumnus of the NUS Debate Team. His is a debating career that has spanned many years and one that has seen him win several accolades. He represented the University in the World Universities Debating Championships 2006, held in Dublin, and was a quarter finalist when he represented Singapore in the World Schools Debating Championships in 2002. Among his many achievements, he was a semi finalist in the Asian Universities Debating Championships 2008 and Champion of the SMU Hammers in the same year. He is also a great believer in developing debaters for the future, and was actively contributing back to the local debate circuit in his capacity as an Executive Committee member of the Debate Association (Singapore). Mr. Nabil is currently a lawyer with Drew & Napier.
Mr. Kelvin Chong is a current member of the NUS Debate Team. Although he is only in his second year, he has achieved much both as a debater and as an adjudicator. Kelvin has achieved much acclaim internationally, as he was a semi finalist in the Asian Universities Debating Championships 2009, quarter finalist in the prestigious Yale IVs and finalist in the Grand Serdang Debate Championships 2005. He has similarly dominated the local scene and was Champion of the Inter- Polytechnic Debate Championships, semi- finalist of the Singapore Debate Open and quarter finalist at the NTU Dorothy Cheung
