The Division III Debating Championships, sponsored by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) was held on 14 January 2017 at Loyang Secondary School.
This tournament allowed debaters in Division III of the Singapore Secondary Schools Debating Championship to hone their debating skills and gain experience prior to the National Championships. Debaters gained greater insight into the issue of problem gambling in the local context, and the related social and economic concerns. They debated on motions such as banning video games in which in-game currency is used to gamble for virtual items, or giving out social welfare in goods and services rather than the equivalent cash value.

Debate Association (Singapore) is once again organising the Division III Debating Championship in 2017.
A tournament held at the start of each school year, the D3DCs provides teams in Division III with competitive exposure prior to the Singapore Secondary Schools Debating Championships (SSSDCs). One of the key features of this tournament is the extended time for young teams to seek feedback from their adjudicators. This is a valuable opportunity for them to gain experience in competitive debate in a conducive learning environment.
A central aim for this tournament is to ensure that such opportunities remain accessible to schools that are new to debating and require preparation before the SSSDC. Thus, we are pleased to announce that our tournament will remain free-of-charge next year, thanks to the kind sponsorship of our partner National Council of Problem Gambling.
Invitations to sign up for the tournament have already been sent to the respective teachers-in-charge of secondary schools in Division III of SSSDC. If you are a new school to SSSDC or if you have not received our invitation, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
