SRC-DA(S) IHL Debate Championship 2015 Registration Now Open

Conducted annually since 2005, the SRC-DA(S) IHL Debate Championship aims to foster an appreciation of pressing global issues such as Universal Human Rights and International Relations. It is also the only tournament on the debate circuit currently dedicated to such international themes.

Results of MOE-ACJC Intercollegiate Debating Championships

Now in its fifth year, the Ministry of Education-ACJC Intercollegiate Debating Championship (the national championship for pre-university institutions) was held at Anglo-Chinese Junior College on 5th - 6th June 2015. After several grueling elimination rounds, Dunman High School beat United World College (Southeast Asia) by a 4 - 1 split amongst the judge panel to emerge the Champion Team for 2015. The best speaker of the final was Chey Yew Hwei. Congratulations to Dunman High School!

2015 June Training Camp Registration Open!

Debate Association (Singapore) is pleased to open registration for our annual June Camp! The June Camp is open to both experienced debaters as well as students with no prior experience currently in upper primary school (Primary 4 to 6, or equivalent). It will take place on 23 & 24 June 2015.

Students can look forward to lectures by accomplished debaters on the fundamentals of debate as well as advanced techniques in building arguments and persuasion. They will also benefit from activity-based learning in smaller breakout groups (grouped by ability), and have a chance to meet like-minded student from other schools.

Applications will close on 12 June midnight. Spaces are limited so as to ensure a good facilitator-student ratio, so please do register quickly!

Debate Development Initiative 4th Cycle Now Open!

We are proud to announce that applications for our Debate Development Initiative (DDI) is open!

Now in its 4th cycle, the DDI is a 15-week training programme focused on training debaters in a wide range of advanced debate topics, techniques and formats. It is open to Upper Secondary school students (as of 2015) with at least moderate debating experience, a humble learning attitude, and a passion for oratory.

Results for Speak! Ventures Debate Championships 2015

Debate Association (Singapore) and Speak! Ventures Pte Ltd organised the Speak! Ventures Debate Championships held on 24 and 25 January 2015. The tournament was hosted by Pioneer Junior College.

In our second year, we saw 32 schools from across Singapore compete in preparation for the Singapore Secondary Schools Debating Championships that will be happening in less than two weeks time.

Teams from across all three divisions of the SSSDC, debated in SVDC on motions surrounding issues such as patents for green technology, the dominant narratives in children's education, and on the impact of the commodification of indigenous cultures.

Nanyang Girls' High School emerged the champions of the Gold Division, while Ngee Ann Secondary School clinched the championship trophy for the Silver Division.

Results for Division III Debating Championships 2015

Debate Association (Singapore) organised the Division III Debating Championships 2015 on the 10th of January 2015 at Anglican High School. The tournament is in its second year running, and allows fledgling teams from Division III of the Singapore Secondary Schools Debating Championships to gain early exposure and experience on the competitive circuit. 
This year saw an expanded turn out, with double the number of teams competing in the tournament. Students debated on complex issues such as holding video game companies financially responsible for the harms of addiction, regretting the rise of citizen journalism in Singapore and whether government scholarships should only be given to the financially needy. 
After three gruelling rounds of debate, including an impromptu motion, Anglican High School emerged victorious, with Peirce Secondary School and Coral Secondary School coming in 1st and 2nd Runner Ups respectively.
